VET Courses

Below is a list of all the VET courses offered to secondary students by Sydney Catholic Schools RTO. Please note: not all courses are offered at every school. To find what courses are available at your local school see ‘Courses by school’ below.

Courses

  • Automotive - This course prepares students to perform a limited range of tasks related to the mechanical and electrical components and systems of cars, heavy vehicles, outdoor power equipment, bicycles, marine craft and motorcycles.
  • Beauty Services - Through this course students can learn the knowledge and skills required to undertake the role of individuals employed as make-up artists to design and apply make-up for a range of purposes and occasions across the beauty, fashion, media and entertainment industries.
  • Business Services - This course would suit students who are interested in a career in the office or business environment and in other personal contact service occupations such as legal or medical secretary, business management, marketing, advertising and finance.
  • Construction - The course qualification is nationally recognised entry-level qualification for employment in the Construction industry. This course would suit students who are interested in a career in the building and construction industry, building certification or project management in that industry.
  • Early Childhood Education & Care - This course prepares students for the recognised entry-level qualifications required for employment in the Community Services industry. The course would suit students who are interested in either a career in Education, the Child-care Industry or part-time work while undertaking further study.
  • Electrotechnology - During this course students cover competencies for work entry program providing grounding in safety and basic skills and knowledge for work in any electrotechnology discipline.
  • Entertainment Industry - This course would suit students who are interested in a career in the Entertainment Industry, working in possible jobs such as stage-hand, technical assistant in lighting and sound.
  • Fitness - This course prepares students for entry-level qualifications required for employment in the Fitness industry. Due to the elective specialisation chosen, it provides a pathway to work as the role of gym instructors.
  • Furniture Making - Throughout this course, students develop the skills and knowledge required to perform the manufacture of free-standing furniture or built-in cabinets, and provide on-site assistance in the installation of furniture or cabinets involving known routines and procedures and some accountability for the quality of outcomes.
  • Hairdressing - This course prepares students for the role of individuals who work as salon assistants, competent in performing routine functions under direct supervision as part of a hairdressing team: communicating in the workplace, interacting with and providing service to clients and assistance to colleagues.
  • Hospitality – Food & Beverage - The course would suit students who are interested in a career in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry, working in hotels, motels, restaurants, clubs, catering organisations, resorts, travel and tourism organisations.
  • Hospitality – Kitchen Operations - This course provides a pathway to work in kitchen operations in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes, cafeterias, coffee shops and institutions such as aged care facilities, hospitals, prisons and schools.
  • Hospitality 120hr Specialisation – Catering Operations - This qualification provides a pathway to work in various catering settings such as hospitals and aged care facilities, sporting and entertainment venues, hotel banqueting departments, cook–chill production kitchens and mobile catering businesses of varying size.
  • Human Services (Health) - This course would suit students who are interested in a career in the Health Industry.
  • Information, Digital Media and Technology - This course provides a foundation in general computing and employment skills that enable participation in an information technology environment in any industry. It also assists students to achieve a degree of confidence and self-sufficiency as an advanced ICT user.
  • Metal & Engineering - This course provides students the opportunity to work on lathes and milling machines as well as learning about hand and power tools and precision measurement tools while learning welding skills through using manual metal arc and gas metal arc process as well as the oxy acetylene welding.
  • Music Industry - This course would suit students interested in a career in the music industry’s many creative roles or related fields.
  • Plumbing - This qualification covers skills and knowledge required to perform a limited range of tasks related to the plumbing industry. If undertaking a School Based Apprenticeship, the course will contribute towards the first year of the apprenticeship. This course is delivered at St Yon Trade Training Centre (at LaSalle Catholic College Bankstown) by TAFE NSW South Western Sydney Institute (RTO Number 90008).
  • Post-school VET – Business - This course provides Year 12 HSC Business Services students the opportunity to upgrade from a Certificate II in Business to a Certificate III qualification.
  • Post-school VET – Early Childhood Education and Care - This qualification is recognised as the entry-level qualification for employment in the Child Care industry and would suit students who are interested in a career in the industry or part-time work while undertaking further study.
  • Post-school VET – Health Services Assistance - This qualification is recognised entry-level for employment in the Health industry.
  • Post-school VET – Information, Digital Media and Technology - This course provides Year 12 HSC IDT students the opportunity to complete the Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology qualification.
  • Primary Industries - This course would suit students interested in a career in the Agriculture Industry, working in possible jobs such as an assistant animal attendant/stockperson or Farm or Station hand/worker/labourer.
  • Property Services - This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for an entry level real estate sales or property management support person.
  • Retail Services - This course would suit students interested in a career in the retail environment, retail management, marketing, advertising and finance.
  • Screen and Media - This course prepares students to apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work contexts in the film, television, radio or digital media industries.
  • Sport Coaching - This course would suit students who are interested in sharing their skills and knowledge of a particular sport by undertaking a coaching role under supervision or independently in a sporting club or school, both while at school and post-school while undertaking further study in this or a related field.
  • Stage 5 Construction - The skills and knowledge developed during this course will benefit students to successfully undertake a Stage 6 VET Construction course, or will assist students who wish to begin an Australian Apprenticeship in the Construction industry.
  • Stage 5 Hospitality - The skills and knowledge developed during this course will benefit students to successfully undertake a Stage 6 VET Hospitality course, or will assist students who wish to begin an Australian Apprenticeship in the Hospitality industry.
  • Tourism, Travel & Events - This course would suit students interested in a career in event operations with event management companies, event venues, or organisations which organise their own events, in a range of industries.
